Massachusetts Homeschoolers visit Beckley
The Friends of Beckley Furnace were delighted to welcome a group of about a
dozen home-schooled young people from southern Berkshire County, Massachusetts
in September 2007.
Although the weather was not kind that day, everyone seemed to have a great
time, and the kids clearly learned a lot as well. Here are some pictures
from that visit (click any of them to see a larger image):

Ed Kirby talks with the group about the
history of the iron industry in our area |

Ed discusses Ethan Allen with the group |

Questions and answers |

Pointing out the salamander |

Inside the furnace -- rapt attention |

Dick Paddock describing the casting
process |

In the office building: start of the
charcoal demonstration |

Charcoal-making demo continues |

Who would think charcoal making would
smell this bad? |

Flaming off the fumes |
We
certainly enjoyed this visit -- a great bunch of kids!! |
